Biography
Miguel Carballo studied at the Academia Nacional de Música “Man Césped” in Cochabamba (Bolivia) under the musical guidance of Nina Veneros and Koichi Fujii. In 2007, he won First Place in the Totora National Piano Competition. Since 2005, he has participated in several piano competitions, recitals, and festivals in Bolivia. In 2015, he was selected as a pianist of the Academia Teatro del Lago International Orchestra (Chile). The same year, he was accepted to perform at the Festival Vila de Xàbia International in Alicante (Spain) and at the Barcelona Piano Academy (Spain) at the Liceu Conservatory. There, he took part in master classes with Maestros David Kuyken, Stanislav Pochekin, Hortense Cartier-Bresson, Mi-Joo Lee, Albert Atenelle, and Josep Colom. In 2017, he was admitted with a scholarship to the Graduate Program in piano at the University of Central Arkansas (USA), where he studied with Dr. Neil Rutman, finishing his Master’s Degree in 2020. During his time there, he had the opportunity to perform at Snow Fine Arts Recital Hall, First United Methodist Church Conway, and Mayflower Steinway Hall. Additionally, Mr. Carballo worked as a piano teacher at the Man Césped Music Academy (2008-2016), an accompanist pianist at Central Baptist College (2020-2022), and a piano teacher at Young Musicians of America (since 2020). Under his guidance, his piano students won several K-12 competitions in Arkansas and Texas.
Alongside his musical activities, Mr. Carballo studied Computer Systems Engineering at the “Universidad Privada Boliviana” and worked at the Research Center for New Information Technologies (CINTI) in Cochabamba city. There, he was involved in various projects related to Software Development, including Java projects, Android App Development, Web Data Visualization, and Databases. During this time, he was part of the team awarded 2nd Place in the Plurinational Prize for Science and Technology in Bolivia in the categories of Industrial Transformation and Information and Communication Technologies (2015 and 2016). Afterward, he entered the Computer Science Master’s program at the University of Central Arkansas, from which he graduated in May 2023, in addition to having been a Solution Developer Intern at the Acxiom company.
Currently, Mr. Carballo is a piano instructor at Jacobs Academy Virtual Academy (a program of IU-Jacobs School of Music) and is pursuing the Doctoral Degree in Music Technology at Indiana University. His studies involve music software development, sound editing, and AI music generation.
