SpectraUPB App
This was one of the projects developed by CINTI (Centro de Investigaciones en Nuevas Tecnologías Informáticas) where Mr. Carballo worked as a Research Assistant/ Software Developer as part of the team that created Smartphone Spectrometer: SpectraUPB App using Android Studio IDE.
The team lead by Dr. Alex Villazón, Dr. Omar Ormachea and Dr. Ramiro Escalera created a miniaturized low-cost spectrometer that uses the camera of an Android Smartphone and processes the images in the spectrometry software (Android App). The Android App enables initial wavelength calibration, which allows to calibrate the device and obtain values of absorbance, and transmittance, and obtain spectral curves in real-time.
Applications for the spectrometer incluides:
- In-situ and real-time measurement of the concentration of chromium in tanning liquors, to control the leather tanning process without requiring expensive equipments
- In-situ an real-time measurements of the concentration of synthetic dyes in texile industry wastewaters
- Colorimetric measurement of antioxidant activity of Bolivian Andean vegetal extracts
